Scouting is Ministry

The Foundation provides financial support to foster & promote Scouting through the General Commission on United Methodist Men. In September 2024 Bishop James Swanson attended the West Virginia UMM Gathering/ Scouting Circuit Rider 34 Jamboree as the Keynote Speaker.

201 Scouts & Leaders were present along with the West Virginia United Methodist Men. At the event a Golf Tournament sponsored by UMM raised additional funds to further support Scouting.

Scouting serves to engage young people with positive activities and teaches important values. The Foundation has a long history of active support for Scouting which UMM describe in this way: “Scouting IS Ministry!”

Boy Scout Oath or Promise

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
